Self-drilling screws are manufactured from cold-heading steel and feature a #2 drill point. The unique tip design allows them to drill, tap, and fasten metal to metal objects in one operation, without the need to pre-drill. This creates the optimal drill performance and thread forming experience. The most common applications are used on metal to metal, but they can also be used in a wide variety of other applications. IFI-113 and ASTM C954 cover the material and performance requirements for steel self-drilling screws.
